About The Author

I'm glad you're here. I'm excited to share my story with you and connect over life, kids, books, food, photography, and the beautiful world around us.

Heidi Koland

Heidi Koland is an author, illustrator, photographer, and accomplished health and well-being professional. She was born and raised in Minnesota which helped shaped her passions and she will always hold a special place for Minnesota in her heart. She loves nature and is infinitely curious about our outdoor world.

 

Heidi currently lives in Colorado with her husband, Scott, their energetic son, Kai, and a half Manx Cat, Bodhi...as well as many travelers found outside in the yard that have overnight stays in their terrarium (currently a slug and a cricket). She lives surrounded by a forest; in that forest is 'howling hill' inhabited with deer, black bear, great-horned owls, fox, and other amazing creatures just waiting to be included in her stories and adventures.

Heidi has been a landscape nature photographer for over 20 years and loves to use pictures to tell stories. In 2022, she published her debut children’s fiction picture book: If I Could Ride a Train depicting a train ride and all the amazing sights we can see.

 

Heidi has additional works in progress such as the sea, dark wolf, and let’s talk which all include the common theme of nature exploring issues such as fear, importance of nature play, health, and loss. Heidi is a member of SCBWI and wants to share her passion for the appreciating the natural beauty that surrounds us each day with children across the world.
